FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER

12-15 hours/week mid August - May. (possible additional cleaning hours available, not required)
$17 - 20 wage depending on experience.
Typical Schedule: Friday late afternoons - evenings and Saturday late morning - early evenings.

Purpose of the Job 

The Front of House Manager is responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the Utah Children's Theatre’s front of house operations during performances. The House Manager will develop and lead a team of House Staff team members to provide a safe, inviting, friendly and vibrant environment for audiences, visitors and staff. 

 Duties and Responsibilities FOH Operations  

  • Responsible for the safety and security of the building and that correct opening up and locking up procedures are followed. Act as a key-holder and the emergency call-out list.
  • Implementing the correct emergency and evacuation procedures for the building.    
  • Ensure standards of cleaning the building are maintained. Manage supplies. ensuring all spaces, internal and external and including all fittings, equipment and resources are well maintained, in good working order and to take action when they are not.  

 Staff Management

  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of House Staff.
  • Ensure that all House Staff have adequate and appropriate training to include: customer service, access, health & safety.
  • Schedule House Staff, ensuring performances are adequately staffed at all times.
  • Provide accurate wage information for House Staff to the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure House Staff follow dress code and maintain a high standard of appearance and customer service. 

 Customer Service  

  • Work closely with other members of staff to develop and maintain a coordinated approach to customer care for Utah Children's Theatre. 
  • Act as Customer Service manager during performances

 Health and Safety 

  • Abide by and promote the theatre’s health and safety policy in conjunction with current health & safety regulations, and ensure that all members of the House Staff are trained in and comply with emergency and safety procedures.  
  • Ensure that all House Staff are familiar with the theatre’s fire evacuation procedures and that staff receive regular fire awareness training, take part in regular fire drill practice. 
  • Be a first aider on behalf of Utah Children's Theatre.  
  • To keep accident records and appropriate first aid supplies 

 Sales 

  • Ensure that the House Staff have a comprehensive knowledge of upcoming shows, concession items, season tickets and theatre school programs and can effectively promote to customers. 

 Soda Fountain and Box Office  

  • To be trained in the use of our ticketing system and to provide occasional cover.
  • To be trained in soda fountain procedures and provide occasional cover. 
  • To ensure that promotional materials are current and regularly refreshed.  
  • To ensure that merchandise stock levels are monitored and maintained. 

 Other Duties

  • Attend company meetings as needed. 
  • Schedule and lead House Staff meetings.
  • To maximize income and minimize expenditure wherever possible, without jeopardizing the quality of the work.

 Qualifications

  • Proven experience of leading a FOH team in an arts venue or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Food Handlers permit.
  • Experience in staff supervision.
  • Excellent proven customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, take personal responsibility and resolve issues independently.
  • A positive, solution focused attitude to work.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal and good written communication skills
  • Proficient level of software literacy and ability to learn new systems.
  • Good administrative skills with the ability to maintain systems and records
  • An understanding of access and disability issues.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization abilities working effectively under pressure and the flexibility to adapt quickly to demands.
  • An interest in the arts.

 Desirable

  • Qualifications in health & safety, fire safety, first aid.
  • Previous experience working in a theatre/arts environment or community/retail focused service.

 

HOUSE STAFF

8 - 12 hours/week mid August - May
$9 hour starting wage depending on experience.
Typical Schedule: Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons - early evenings
Purpose of the Job 

House Staff provides a safe, warm, friendly and vibrant environment for audiences, visitors and staff during performances. 

Duties Include 
Greet patrons.
Sell tickets and concessions.
Make the theatre look awesome.
Make old fashioned sodas.
Be a happy person.
Make patrons happy and love the theatre.

Qualifications

  • Experience in retail/restaurant/customer service or equivalent.
  • Valid Food Handlers permit.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer savvy.
  • An interest in the arts.
  • Dependable
  • Reliable transportation

 

2019 - 2020 School Year (September - May)
THEATRE SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS (pay range:$14-20 DOE)

We are looking for individuals who have abilities coaching students in acting and singing using the UCT curriculum.

Other light office admin may be required such as taking payments, customer service and light cleaning.

Individuals should be available to teach 2 - 3 hours per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 4:30pm - 7:30pm.
